Have you ever seen gnomes?
Do you know how they look like?

Come to the village of Vasarankylä in Lapinjärvi and make sure they really exist. See how they peep around the corners and behind the trees. Make acquaintance with them.
Gnomes are a part of very old Finnish folk tradition and they have been known for at least 500 years. Their subspecies are e.g. saunagnome, barngnome and forestgnome. Homegnomes are a bit weary, invisible yet hardworking creatures but if you treat them bad, they may flick back.

Leena Sjöblad, famous Finnish handicraft artist is the mother for folkloric gnomes and dolls which she creates in her workshop in Lapinjärvi. Leenukka-design figures are famous collectors and decoration items and works of art.

Gnomecenter Aarstu, the world of gnomes, is a place for more than 35 Finnish gnomemakers who get annually together in this 200 years old house in order to preserve this old Finnish tradition.

It is an excellent place for visits either for domestic or foreign groups or an inspiring milieu for meetings.
Within Aarstu´s massive logwalls you can dive into permanent or changing exhibitions of exciting mythic figures or enjoy a nice cup of coffee or follow puppetshow of old folklore stories.
